Rachael Smith Named 2012-13 Teacher Who Makes a Difference

Rachael Smith is a consummate professional, she has taught at several levels and in different disciplines. Her passion, commitment and dedication to her students is to give them the best education possible. Seven Hills prides itself on academic excellence. Rachael has taken the P.E. program and brought that same vision and curricular excellence and made it into a partner with the other core disciplines. The highest compliment an educator can give another educator is to say that I would want my child in that teacher’s classroom. The staff and myself all feel that way about Rachael. When you think about what makes a good teacher and what traits that teacher should have, the model would be someone as dedicated, caring, and having high expectations for their students like Rachael Smith. If we had more level headed, committed teachers like Rachael in education many of our problems in education would lessen. This award can not go to a more deserving individual. If you knew how badly she wanted to be here tonight and especially at school for the past month, you’d have a sense of her character. Rachael was in an accident in August and has been fighting a back injury ever since the accident. In spite of that she continued to teach P.E. and have high expectations of her students. Finally, her doctors have ordered her to rest and they are trying to find out how to heal this wonderful person/education. I wish she was here tonight to accept this award that she truly deserves.
