Foothills Fresh, our new school meal program, has launched and kids and staff are eating it up! Meals are delivered daily, served hot and fresh and feature organic local produce. Menu items include burritos using regionally made tortillas and black beans from Foothills Farm in Auburn and pizza featuring dough from the Truckee Sourdough Company. Fresh organic strawberries, pluots and pears are being served during the first few weeks of the program. The program aims to increase locally grown foods, reduce packaging and waste, and create a nutritious lunch that students are excited to eat. The meals are prepared by the Nevada Joint Union High School Food Service staff in partnership with Sierra Harvest who brings us our farm to school program. If you haven't signed up yet, please visit www.ncsd.school for more information. This year you can pay online, or drop off cash/check to the school office. Lunches are $3.50 (a screamin deal) and the district encourages any family to apply for free/reduced lunches that could be eligible. Sierra Harvest welcomes your feedback - please send your thoughts to firstname.lastname@example.org. Bon Appetit!
